Though the word census does appear in The Constitution for the United States of America, the Constitution does not authorize its use.
In fact, the Constitution makes a distinction between that of a Census and an Enumeration. In Amendment 16, prohibiting both. In Article 1, authorizing only the one that was earlier mentioned.
The earlier mentioned is an Enumeration, and then it also is defined or detailed as to what information is to be obtained. Though an Enumeration can be part of a Census; a census gathers far more information than an enumeration.
